[size=+1]METAL-SAW HOLDER A metal-saw that I have used for a long time has got damaged on the teeth. So I have purchased a new one. Diameter of the new one is 70mm and its inner hole size is 24.5mm. Number of the teeth is 72. Design of the holder is the same as the No.17 holder that I made previously.
1. This steel section will be machined to form the mounting cap . Material is free cutting steel and its diameter is 30mm.
2. Cutting the outer diameter to be a neat fit for the inner hole size of the metal-saw. After machining make sure it fits neatly with no play.
3. Next drill a 6.2mm hole in the center of the cap .
[size=+1][size=+0]4. Cut off the unnecessary part of the cap. To protect the machined surface from damage, copper foil is placed between the job and the vice jaws.
5. Machining a counterbore for the locking screw.
6. This is the rear face of the base. Machine a threaded hole to match the chucking shaft. The material is free cutting steel and its diameter is 30mm.
6.5. Drawing of internal detail of the arbor. Cap screw thread is machined into the end of chucking shaft.
7. This is the chucking shaft of the metal-saw arbor. The material is free cutting steel. The blank size is 14mm. Machine down to 12mm diameter and thread to match the base.
8. The holder is assembled to the shaft with the an anaerobic thread lock adhesive like high strength " Loctite 2760 ". Hold the metal-saw arbour with the fixed steady. Then machine the inner part of the holder.
9. After finish machining of the holder, cut off excess and face the end of the shaft.
10. Completed. | |
11. Back view of the holder.
12. The new one is on the left and the old one on the right. |
