Engel Piston Tanks offer the advantage ofoperating at regular atmosphere not requiring supplementary air-intake bysnorchels or gas containers (which are unreliable and might even be hazardous)for resurfacing. Furthermore, operation times are only restricted by batterycapacity - with a 10Amp battery (which is standard in boat models) running timeof the model is well over 1 hour! Piston Tanks require a hermetically sealedcompartment ("WTC=water tight compartment"). All Engel submarinefulfill this requirement by either single-hull design ("Lafayette" or"Patrick Henry") or a socalled Middle-Deck which is glued into thelower hull as WTC.
